Is flying private worth it compared with flying commercial?
It depends on how you value time and flexibility. Private flying saves time through faster airport access and direct routing to airports airlines don't serve, and it lets you fly on your own schedule. Whether that justifies the cost comes down to how often you fly, the value of your time, and how many people are traveling.

What is a reliever or executive airport?
A reliever or executive airport is a general-aviation field that absorbs private and business traffic so the region's commercial hub stays clear. Florida has many — from Opa-Locka and Fort Lauderdale Executive in the southeast to Orlando Executive and others statewide — and they typically offer faster ramp access than airline terminals.
Can private jets use the major commercial airports too?
Yes. Private flights can operate into major airports such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Orlando through their FBOs. Many operators still prefer nearby reliever fields, which are often closer to the final destination and quicker on the ground.
Which Florida airports do private jets use most?
In the southeast, Opa-Locka (OPF), Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE), Boca Raton (BCT), and West Palm Beach (PBI) see heavy private traffic; on the Gulf Coast, Naples (APF), Fort Myers, Sarasota (SRQ), and Tampa (TPA); and in Central Florida, Orlando Executive (ORL). Private flights can also use the major commercial airports through their FBOs. The right choice is usually the field closest to your final destination.

FBOs (fixed base operators)

What is an FBO?
A fixed base operator (FBO) is the private-aviation terminal at an airport. It handles arriving and departing aircraft and their passengers — fueling, parking, and the lounge you pass through instead of the main terminal.
What services do FBOs provide?
Typical services include fuel, ground handling and marshalling, hangar and ramp parking, passenger and crew lounges, crew cars, and coordination of catering, ground transport, and customs. Offerings vary by location, so confirm specifics with the FBO directly.
Do I need to book an FBO in advance?
It's a good idea, especially in peak season or for large aircraft that need hangar space. A quick call or handling request lets the FBO stage fuel and services for your arrival time.
How early do I need to arrive at the FBO for a private flight?
Much less than for a commercial flight. Because you clear security and board privately, passengers commonly arrive around 15 to 30 minutes before departure. Confirm timing with your operator, since international departures and large groups can need a little longer.

Charter & jet cards

What's the difference between on-demand charter and a jet card?
On-demand charter is booked and paid trip by trip. A jet card prepays for a block of flight hours or a membership, usually with fixed hourly rates and guaranteed availability. Charter suits occasional trips; cards suit frequent, repeatable flying.
Are charter operators regulated?
Commercial charter in the U.S. operates under FAA Part 135 rules. A legitimate operator holds a Part 135 certificate; it's reasonable to ask which certificate a flight is operated under before booking.
What is an empty leg?
An empty leg is a repositioning flight an aircraft makes with no passengers on board — for example, returning to base after a one-way charter. Operators often discount these to offset the cost, so they can be among the best-value charters when the date, route, and timing line up with your plans.
What size private jets are there, and how many passengers fit?
Charter aircraft are grouped by cabin size. Turboprops and very light jets typically seat about four to six; light and midsize jets seat six to eight; super-midsize and heavy jets seat roughly eight to sixteen and fly longer legs. Larger cabins cost more per hour but add range, luggage space, and amenities.
Is private charter safe?
Commercial charter is flown by certificated Part 135 operators under FAA rules, with trained professional crews and maintenance programs. Many buyers also look for independent safety audits such as ARGUS or Wyvern ratings. It's reasonable to ask an operator about its certificate and safety record before booking.

What does a charter broker do?
A charter broker arranges flights on your behalf by sourcing aircraft from operators across the market. The broker is your point of contact and coordinator, while a certificated operator actually flies the aircraft.
Should I use a broker or book directly with an operator?
Booking directly with an operator can be simpler when you know the aircraft you want and it's available. A broker adds value when you want options compared across many operators, or need aircraft in markets where you have no direct relationship.

Detailing & MRO

What is MRO?
MRO stands for maintenance, repair, and overhaul — the shops and technicians that keep aircraft airworthy. Work ranges from routine inspections to engine and avionics servicing.
What does aircraft detailing include?
Aircraft detailing covers exterior washing and brightwork polishing, plus interior cleaning of leather, carpet, and cabin surfaces. Beyond appearance, regular detailing helps protect finishes from corrosion and wear.

Advanced air mobility & eVTOL

What is eVTOL or advanced air mobility?
Advanced air mobility (AAM) refers to a new class of aircraft — many of them electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) designs — intended for short regional and urban air-taxi trips. They take off and land from compact pads called vertiports.
Can I book an eVTOL flight in Florida now?
